Things I've learned in the past year
Well let's see....it's been one hell of a year for me. So many changes in my life, I'm actually amazed I'm still standing.
In August, my marriage blew up. In Feb, I bought myself a house and moved into it at the beginning of March. Started living alone and I love it.
At the end of March, I met Rob - coincidentally that same day, I got layed off from my job of 24 years (thankfully I got a payout). So as of April, I have been unemployed...first time in my life. It's been 2 months now and i'm actually starting to go a bit stir crazy. Who knew?
Thinking that the only things I have left to do before September is build a house and get married and I would have done the 5 most stressful things a person does in their life. Thankfully, that's not going to happen.
Now I find myself with a pretty good life. I had no idea how stressful it would be trying to find a different job or upgrade. Sooo many options. I'm over-qualified for some stuff, under-qualified for others. Very frustrating time in my life right now. BUT we learn, don't we? You'd THINK that since I saw the layoff coming, I would have had some idea what I wanted to do. Nope. Do we ever know what we want to do when we grow up? Now when I bought my house, I knew we would all be losing our jobs at some point. I decided that I might as well pay a mortgage instead of rent. Not alot more expensive and since I could get the financing, it was a pretty easy decision. I'm glad I did it, I needed something that was mine. So I have learned:
1) friends and family are anchors in life. You know who you are :)
2) be grateful for what you have...it can be gone just like that
3) be smart, have fun and most of all enjoy every moment
4) having a house is a ton of work, especially when you are living alone
5) pets save a person's sanity
6) moving is a HUGE job and I NEVER want to do it again
7) unpack quickly, or it won't get done. lol
8) meeting people is easy...finding a decent person to date is not
9) Things will work out, they always do
10) And lastly, I have no idea how I got anything done while I was working because I have no time to get anything done now. lol

Every time I think I learn the rules, someone changes the game! Crazy huh?
